About Scott
My Story
My career and life’s path has been a remarkable journey that has led me to this incredibly rewarding role and critical work as an executive coach for nonprofit leaders. Fueled by a lifelong sense of personal responsibility to help create a better and more equitable world, this executive coaching role draws on my 20+ years of leadership experience and business accomplishments, plus my unwavering desire to help people achieve both professional and personal happiness, fulfillment, and success. Each client inspires me with their commitment, vision, and passion, and together with my earnest listening, guidance, hands-on support, and genuine care, we are able to create a strong partnership that drives meaningful impact.
I grew up in Los Angeles with my mother and two older sisters, and learned the value of hard work through holding 3 jobs during high school, starting at age 14, and later working my way through college at UC Berkeley (Cal). At Cal, I continued to develop my leadership skills in roles that included: Dorm President, Campus-Wide Student Senator, and Sports Director of the University Radio Station, KALX.
‘My life purpose is to make the world better by helping nonprofit leaders grow their leadership skills and impact.’
After Cal, I worked at two advertising agencies, completed my MBA at Harvard, and spent nearly five years at Clorox as a Brand Manager. With solid training behind me, I then began a twenty year career in various leadership roles at internet companies. While in tech, I ran organizations of various sizes ranging from startups to a 400-person company with $400MM in revenue (Ask Jeeves). Throughout my career, I consistently heard that I was a “demanding but nice leader who really cares.” My heart made me successful in connecting with people, meeting them where they were, and helping them to grow professionally (four people that worked for me went on to become Silicon Valley CEOs).
My success professionally coincided with a feeling of responsibility to use my skills to help address the inequities in our world. I began to focus my time on this mission when I joined, and later chaired, a National Board for the nonprofit Juma Ventures (a leader in youth workforce development and college access), and became CEO of Goodshop, an internet website that donates money to nonprofits with every online purchase from its customers.
The impact of my efforts at Juma Ventures and Goodshop inspired me to start my second career as an Executive Coach for nonprofit leaders, social entrepreneurs, and first time CEOs from diverse backgrounds. I have found my calling, and feel strongly that this work aligns with my skill set and values, allowing me to use my leadership experience and heart to help mission-driven leaders maximize their professional growth and impact. I have had the pleasure of working with dozens of these leaders funded by organizations such as Draper Richards Kaplan, REDF, Camelback Ventures, Fast Forward, Irvine Foundation, Emerson Collective, and Digital Undivided.
As an executive coach,
I feel exceedingly fortunate to support the growth of others and share what I have learned. My lifetime of leadership experience has enabled me to live my life’s purpose everyday: To make the world better by helping nonprofit leaders grow their leadership skills and impact
